Upholstery Cleaners

Upholstery cleaning

Couches and chairs are priced in different ways by different cleaners. The same questions to each one make the quotes comparable.

05How long until it is dry enough to sit on?Plan the day around the answer.
06Are cushion covers cleaned on or off the cushions?Ask what they advise for yours, and why.
07Is fabric protector included, or an extra? If extra, ask its price on its own so you can decide.

Know your fabric

Look for a care label under the cushions or on the frame. Its letters or symbols tell a cleaner which methods the fabric will take, so read them out when you ask for a price.

If there is no label, say what the piece is covered in and roughly how old it is. Leather and suede are quoted apart by many cleaners, so mention them at the start.

On the day

Vacuum away loose crumbs if you can, and move small tables and lamps out of the way. Keep children and pets off the pieces until they are dry.

Open a window or run a fan if the cleaner suggests it. Moving air shortens the drying time.

Where to check

  • ABN Lookup, Australian Business Register

Shows whether a business's ABN is active or cancelled, its business type and its GST status, and the Register says the public can use it to check a business before buying.
